Walking about the village of Arlington you can see much of the flora and fauna close up. There is a good variety of bird-life ranging from various tits to woodpeckers, goldfinches, greenfinches, nuthatches, treecreeper, to name but a few. There is a variety of insect life, dragonflies by the water, ladybirds, stag beetles, butterflies (particularly a certain rare fritillary butterfly) etc. Then there is a great variety of plant life , some quite well hidden unless you look closely, like the white lesser bedstraw, yellow vetch, purple bugle, all of which grow in small carpets in the grass. Though common the foxgloves make a nice show of colour. Also in the Spring are primroses, daffodils, purple violets; I have seen a nice patch of white violets. It is illegal to dig up wild flowers now. Walking up the road to see is the old school, now a private residence and on the way the hedgerows are full of flowers in the summer.. As it's a farming area various cattle and sheep can be seen. Photo left are the red devon cattle. Further up the main road is another part of the village called Arlington Beccott with some cottages and two working farms, Beccott Farm and Middle Beccott.
