Arlington W.I. Jacky Derham gave a very interesting talk on writing. She is a writer for Bound Biographies and deals mostly with private life stories and gives help organising the text and photos. She started with a little quiz for our memories, i.e. what used to be celebrated on the 24th May; answer Empire Day. The first question she would ask people is, ?Why do you want to do it?? The most common answer was ?Want to leave it to the grandchildren?. Next, just for themselves, or to record something specific, or as a memorial to someone. A chronological autobiography can be done or a biography. She doesn?t like to ghost write but let them write it in their own words. It could be a memoir; remember it is your story, diary or journal. If you can write a letter to a friend, you can write anything. Choose the medium to write; she prefers long-hand initially as then in doing alterations the original doesn?t get deleted. Always jot down memories before they are lost.
