We start with photos of the 1928 school group and end with ones of the W.I. 70th celebrations. The old school closed in about 1937 and was used as a village hall for some time, but was sold off and is now a converted private dwelling. As more children become eligible for school, Kentisbury is now the local establishment. The W. I. goes from strength to strength and now has over 20 members who now meet in East Down Village Hall once a month. There is a speaker and refreshments provided by the evenings hostesses. New members are always made welcome. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2006 and two senior members, Greta Crick and Valerie Piper (on behalf of her mother, Lil Jordan)can be seen cutting the cake, made by a talented newer member, Margaret Smith (top photo). There is still an active Parish Council which meets every 2 months and the village public are welcome to come to this. There is no longer an active Mother's Union. The church has much smaller congregations nowadays but still holds a service every fortnight. It is also available for regular hatched, matched and despatched services. A mobile library calls every Thursday fortnight at Reading Room Corner, (so called because of the parish reading room that used to be there before it was unfortunately pulled down). In the old days Mrs. Winnie Morrish held a library of books for borrowing at the stables flat. There has been a village newsletter for the past 5 years which can be purchased at Camps Garage & Shop, Kentisbury for those who don't subscribe, or extracts seen online at http://pippin.website.orange.co.uk
